It's customary on Purim to give gifts of food to friends, called mishloach manot in Hebrew (or shalach manos in Yiddish). Every year I make increasingly elaborate papercut mishloach manot packages for this ritual of edible gift giving. his year, I bring you the king's ring box. The story of Esther is one of difficult, lawless times, where malicious actors hoard power, act out of greed and vindictiveness, and seek to harm the Jews. It feels all too familiar these days. The king's signet ring, first given to Haman to enact his nefarious scheme, is later granted to the heroes to fight back. This year's box, topped with a crown and labeled "taba'at ha-melech" (the ring of the king), opens to reveal a precious ring, giving you the power of the king, along with some gold coins from the treasury. What will you do with that power??
