Learning Torah mural

Congregation Olam Tikvah in Fairfax, Virginia, approached me about painting a mural in their religious school wing, but they didn't want just me to paint it, they wanted all of their students to be a part of it too! And with hundreds of students, they are one of the largest religious schools in the region. In conversations with their educators, we settled on the blessing "La'asok B'divrei Torah" which is said before studying the words of Torah. I designed liquid-style lettering to riff on the cross-language pun of "soaking" in words of Torah. I outlined the design on sheets of plywood, then all of their students helped paint it over two Sundays. The complete piece is 8ft tall, and a whopping 40ft long. And now when the students come in to learn, they can remember how they had a part in making their school a place of Jewish engagement.
