Friendship Mural
I spray painted this mural at Camp Ramah in Ojai, CA during the summer of 2013. My goal was to create a mural using traditional Jewish content in a totally new way, and one in which the design is still compelling even if the viewer can't read the words. The Hebrew text reads: וּקְנֵה לְךָ חָבֵר — U-k'ne lecha haver (Acquire for yourself a friend), from Pirkei Avot. The hand outstretched in friendship seemed appropriate for a summer camp setting.
Below is the original study for the mural. I drafted it on an 11x17 sheet of paper to work out issues of geometry, and to see how well the colors went together. After this test, I opted to replace the pink with orange.
